Awards of Merit | Innovation in a Mobility, Transportation, or Parking Program
The Pittsburgh Smart Loading Zone Pilot won an award for exemplary results: a 40% increase in loading zone turnover, a 23% reduction in average loading zone parking stay, fewer double-parking incidents, and increased overall safety for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists throughout these areas.

Bruno Lopes, Director of Parking & Station Access, MBTA
Under Bruno’s leadership, MBTA pioneered Invoice-by-Mail in 2015, a novel approach that reframes Ticket-by-Mail enforcement as a service that aligns with its objectives to provide a frictionless parking experience for customers. They coupled this with pay-by-plate as a third payment option, a nonpunitive measure to increase compliance and provide more ways to pay for its ridership. With these innovations, MBTA streamlined its payment methodology and saw a significant increase in parking payment compliance.
